In the book Black Star, Bright Dawn, Bright Dawn has many problems while racing in the Iditarod.  One of them is that her Dad was going to race in the Iditarod, but he has an accident so Bright Dawn races instead.  Her sponsors give her seven more dogs so she has enough to run in the race.  Along the way she runs into a lot of moose and has to drop several dogs.  Sky was dropped from the race because she was kicked by a moose and had three broken ribs.  Then Bright Dawn and her little team were stranded on an ice floe for three days.  Her dad came to the rescue even though he was scared of the water because of his accident when he almost drowned.  After she got back on the trail and finished the race, she won the Sportmanship Award of $2,500 and $2,000 for being the first to reach Iditarod checkpoint.  Along with the $2,500 Bright Dawn got a red lantern for finishing in last place.  She is going to use the money for college in Anchorage.  With all the problems she had racing in the Iditarod, some good things happened, and in the end it turned out all right for Bright Dawn.
