When Bright Dawn was sixteen, she had to move from Womengo, Alaska to Ikuma, Alaska because of a very scary accident that happened to her father, Bartok. In Ikuma, her dad got a job at the Empire Canning Company, and Bright Dawn graduated from high school at age 18. Mr.Weiss, President of the Empire Canning Company, and Mr.Gibson, owner of the Gem Cafe', came to Bright Dawn's house because they usually sponsor someone from their businesses to race in the Iditarod, a dog sled race in Alaska. Bright Dawn said she would do it for her father, because he got injured. She had about seven months to train for the Iditarod. When the day came, Bright Dawn was put in an airplane to fly to Anchorage to get ready for the Iditarod. When she got to Anchorage, she lined up with all of the other mushers. When Bright Dawn was lining up, she met a small man named Oteg, who was also racing in the Iditarod. When the starting gun went off, they were off!
