Community Support

Students and school programs are supported in many ways by the communities of the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union. Parent and community volunteers provide countless hours and days in many different efforts, both formal and informal. Action Plan committees in all four schools have benefited from the ideas and knowledge of parents serving on those committees. The Drug/Alcohol/Violence Prevention Council also has community members serving and giving their time.

Across the spectrum of our Pre-K through Grade Twelve programs, there are parents and community members supporting students through Parent/Teacher Organizations, Playground Committees, the Community Group Organization, the Community Friends Organization, Friends of the Arts, and Booster Clubs. Financial donations and volunteer labor from citizens have made possible such things as the new playground at Vergennes Union Elementary School. , a soccer field at Addison Central School; and a classroom at Ferrisburgh Central School.

Community support is very noticeable and welcome in the building and renovation project at Vergennes Union High School. Needs served by this project will include new science labs, renovated classroom areas in the middle school, an expanded library/media center, expanded choral and instrumental music facilities, area for small group and individualized instruction, ventilation upgrades, and increased energy efficiency.

There are two other notable areas of community support. First is the generous contributions of citizens, businesses, and the Addison County States Attorney toward Project Graduation which is a substance free celebration of our graduates. Community support is also shown in the half-million dollars given to VUHS graduates as scholarships.

The high level of community support is greatly appreciated by students and staff in the ANWSU.
