Mrs. Lilly's Third Grade
Mrs. Lilly is a very nice teacher. She
has short blonde hair and lots of pretty earrings! She enjoys being
with
kids, she is a great teacher. She
loves cooking and likes to teach math. She is a good reader. She reads
aloud to us every day! We are listening to the The Little House series by
Laura Ingalls Wilder.
One day a month, we make rolls with Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Gebo. They
make the dough and bring it to the classroom. We each get a small
piece, roll it out like a snake and then tie it into a knot. It
looks like a snake that got tangled up! The cooks take the rolls that
we made back to the kitchen and bake them. Then everyone in the school
gets to eat a tasty wheat roll.
This year is the first year that we have taken the
New England Common Assessment Program tests or the NECAP tests. They
are
tough reading. The hardest part of the test is filling in the dots. The
machine that scores them hates doodling on the paper or scribbling
outside the lines of the tiny dots.
We are studying Ferrisburgh in our
social studies
class. We look at maps on the overhead and also use Google Earth to see
what our town looks like. This picture is from a few years ago. You can
tell because the boat is still on the playground. Right now, there is a
big pile of sand where the boat used to be. We are going to get a
different piece of playground equipment.
There are two museums in Ferrisburgh, the Rokeby
Museum and the Lake Champlain
Maritime Museum. There are 5 towns that
border Ferrisburgh: Charlotte, Monkton, New Haven, Panton, and Waltham.
There is one city, that is Vergennes, that borders our town.
Ferrisburgh has their own post office and also has a fire department.
They are going to build a new town hall where the old Grange Hall used
to stand.
There is only one school in Ferrisburgh, but a while
ago, there were 16 different one room schoolhouses. The one room school
house used wood stoves for heating. Someone would have to keep the fire
going in winter. Students would have to bring a cord of wood for the
stove to pay for going to school. Most of the schoolhouses have been
moved or turned into houses.
In third grade, we all have
our own
Writer. The Writers are used to write stories and to practice
keyboarding. We are all expected to keyboard without looking. We are
also working on this skill in technology class. We use the program
Read, Write and Type in the computer lab.
In our room, we have an overhead projector. It can
project pictures
with light on the screen.
We have three computers in our classroom. One is on the teacher's desk
and the other two are for the students to use.
We have 14 students in our classroom. There are 8 boys and 6
girls in our class.
We have two fire exits in our classroom, one through
the window and one through the door. We have whiteboards in the room
where the chalkboards used to be. There is still one chalkboard in the
room, but it is covered by the word wall. The word wall is to help us
remember how to spell words.
On Mondays, we have technology. On Tuesdays, we have
library and Physical Education. On Wednesdays, we have art. Thursdays,
we have P.E. On Friday, we have music.
Every single day, we have morning meetings. We have
a greeting, we say the flag salute, and then we find out what is going
to happen in the day. If we had something special happen to us, we get
to tell it then to the class. We also do lunch count at that time. If
we get to the classroom early in the morning, we get to play with
puzzles and snap togethers.
As you can see, this classroom is a great place. We
love to be in this class. There are a lot of good things to learn and
good friends in the room!
