Mrs.
Babcock reads lots of books. She reads a lot of books about
insects. She likes Monarch
butterflies a lot.
We have two computers that we can use in our room. Mrs. Babcock has her own computer as well. She has her computer on her desk. We have a Smartboard in our room. We use it to see things in our room. When we were learning our letters, Mrs. Babcock would write the letter on the smartboard. We play Starfall and More Starfall on the computer in our room. We can play computer if we are at that center for center time. If we do any work at our centers, we put the work in a center folder so Mrs. Babcock can see what work we have done.

We have a science
center in our room. There are tons of dead insects, a
bumblebee, a yellow jacket, a butterfly and a chrysalis at
the science table. We can look at them. They are in a jar
with a magnifying glass on the top.We have an ABC center. There are magnetic letters that we can play with. We have a word book that has blank boxes in it. You can draw a picture for whatever letter you want.
We have browsing boxes. We have about five of them, so we share them with each other. In the browsing box, there are lots of different kinds of books. We have lots of books in our room.
When we read independently, we have to pick a book from the white basket. We have to read quietly, we can not talk to our neighbors.
We have a math center where we get to play with polydrons and math books. We have pattern blocks that we can play with also. We have long blocks, rods, that are different colors. We also have unifix cubes. We are learning about money, addition and subtraction. We have some math games, one is called Top It. You have a deck of cards and you try and see who has the largest number on their card.
We have tables in our room. We have pouches on the backs of our chair. We might keep our guided reading books in them.
We go outside for recess if the weather is nice. We might play on the red bars on the playground. We have swings, monkey bars, a big play structure that has slides on it and a swirly pole and a straight pole. There is a basketball hoop, but we don't usually play on it. There is a sandbox, but right now, we don't have sand in it. We have a gazebo that we can rest in.
We have technology class on Fridays. We get to play a lot of games. The games help us practice learning about different subjects and how to use the computer. We like to work on Sammy's Science House. Sometimes we draw on the computer.
Mrs. Parsons is our art teacher. We have art on Tuesdays. We made butterflies and caterpillars out of paper. We stuffed the caterpillar with more paper to make it fat. We painted the butterflies and caterpillars.
We also have library on Tuesdays. We can take out one book. We have to bring back the book the next week. Mrs. Chamberlin reads us some good stories.
We have Physical Education or P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Thursdays, we have music and guidance.
Once a month we have the Four Winds come to our room. The Four Winds are parents that teach us about insects and birds and other animals. They do a puppet show first and then we do a game or craft.
We love being in first grade. We have a lot of work to do that we didn't have in kindergarten, and we don't have a half day on Friday. We do miss the half days on Friday. We do get to have computer and have computers in our room. We also have some days that are double special days. We are learning new things this year.
