Students of Ferrisburgh
Central School have access to the school's electronic resources and the
Internet for school related assignments, activities, communication and
research. All users of the school's network need to follow the rules of
personal and ethical conduct regarding electronic resources; teachers will
guide students in learning acceptable use, and students are responsible
for good behavior on school computer networks, just as they are in a classroom
or school hallway. A copy of the policy relating to the use of electronic
resources is available at the office.
While our intent is to make the school's
electronic resources and the Internet available to further educational
goals and objectives, students may find ways to access other material as
well. We believe that the benefits to students from access to the Internet,
in the form of information services and opportunities for collaboration,
exceed any disadvantages. Parents and guardians are reminded that some
material accessible via the Internet may contain items that are illegal,
defamatory, inaccurate, or potentially offensive. Use of school electronic
resources is contingent upon adherence to the following procedures:
(a) Students must use computers, the
Internet, and other related equipment under the close direction of authorized
school personnel.
(b) Students should understand that
files stored on the school network are the property of the school and may
not always be private.
(c) All users must show great care
with school electronic resources. Damaging or tampering with any equipment
is prohibited, as is intentionally disabling computer security systems.
Users need to notify school personnel at once if they identify a security
problem with the network.
(d) Students must show respect for
others' work. They must receive permission before viewing and must never
intentionally damage or destroy others' work.
(e) Students must not use another's
password or communicate using a false name.
(f) Students must not access inappropriate
Internet sites (as defined by authorized school personnel nor send or display
offensive or obscene messages or pictures. Students may not access or use
"chat room" or other interactive sites without the permission and closer
supervision of authorized school personnel.
(g) Users must adhere to all copyright
laws.
