Description

This course is designed for those who have participated in the Getting Started Bridges Workshops and those in the second or third years of implementation of the Bridges in Mathematics program.  Participants will be given on-going support throughout the school year as they implement Bridges in Mathematics in their classrooms. Participants will: 
1) have time to share what is working and what is not in their classroom and brainstorm solutions to challenges,
2) collaborate with other teachers to plan upcoming units,
3) explore the underlying mathematical principles in the units they  are teaching

Take Learning Center Stage

This course explores how theater and creative movement can be used in your classroom to engage students in learning, improve literacy, enrich and enliven the curriculum, and deepen students understanding of complex subject areas. Participants will engage in hands-on activities that will increase their knowledge of the performing arts and improve their comfort level in participating and leading arts based activities. All activities are standard based and can be taken directly into the classroom.

Aquatic Botany Lake Champlain

The ecology of aquatic plant communities in lakes, wetlands, and streams is explored through lecture/discussion and field experience. Students gain familiarity with the major functional groups of algae and aquatic vascular plants, with an emphasis on algal diversity and community ecology. Students should be comfortable in the water. A field trip on UVM's research vessel Melosira is planned. Summer academic housing is available for interested students.

Adolescent Development: Educational/Psychological Perspective

In depth examination of developmental and learning theory with applications for teaching in secondary settings. Core activities: exploration of personalization in education and service learning. Co-requisites: EDFS 203/EDSC 209. PLEASE NOTE: Summer housing is available on campus beginning May 19. Unless you currently reside in a UVM residence hall (on-campus) for Spring 2008, you will be unable to live on campus for a portion of this course. Sustainable Spaces, Urban Places: Exploring the Built Environment Near Our Schools
