The mission of Vergennes Union Elementary School is to engage our children, families, and community in the lifelong process of learning through exposure to: a rich and challenging curriculum, a skilled, qualified staff, and a safe, nurturing environment in which students will become caring and creative contributors to the diversity of their community and emotionally and academically prepared for the challenges of the future.

VUES Commended by Education Department!!!

The press release noted that since 2005 VUES has seen “tremendous improvements” on its “Annual Measurable Objectives, which are based on the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union’s action plan for making Adequate Yearly Progress in Reading and Math. In all subgroups they are seeing significant progress, and they are closing the gap between students in poverty and their peers. They also focus on students’ whole development, and have a successful child nutrition program.”

Academic Action Plan Report

The VUES Action Plan is comprised of six distinct, content specific, action plans.  They are as follows:  Literacy Plan, Mathematics Plan, Science Plan, Technology Plan, Kindergarten Transition Plan, and the Resiliency and Asset Development Plan.  The primary goal or objective of each plan is taken directly from the ANWSU, district-wide action plan with the exception of Resiliency and Asset Development, which is an entirely building-based plan.

ASSESSMENT RESULTS

For School Year 2010-2011, the primary objective of the literacy and mathematics action plans was the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive progress monitoring system for each content area. The working model or framework for this system is the Response to Intervention (RtI) process. RtI seeks to prevent academic failure through early intervention, frequent progress measurement, and increasingly intensive, research-based instructional interventions for children who continually have difficulty with learning in literacy and/or mathematics.

Of particular concern is the performance of students who fall in the “Free and Reduced Lunch”
sub-category of students.  VUES recognizes the necessity of doing more to assist these students in achieving and maintaining academic grade level expectations.
