Common Core State Standards

TRANSITION TO NEW NATIONAL STANDARDS/SMARTER

BALANCED ASSESSEMENT CONSORTIUM (SBAC) ASSESSMENT IS IN PROGRESS

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.

Vermont joins 30 other states in transitioning from the current (NECAP) New England Common Assessment Program to the (SBAC) Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Assessment which will be fully implemented during the spring of 2015. Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will take this national assessment each spring. The 2011-2012 Pre-K students will be the first class taking this new assessment during the spring of 2015 while in 3rd grade.

ANWSU began its transition work during the 2010-2011 school year and has continued to delve more deeply into the process during the 2011-2012 school year. Below is a chart highlighting the work being done to have all ANWSU educators trained and ready to go by 2014-2015
